Skimming involves plastering specifically plaster board. This results in a 2-3mm thickness of finish plaster.
Re-Skimming
Re-Skimming is skimming over a surface which has already been skimmed some years before. Painted perhaps several times and papered.
The paper is removed before re-skimming is carried out.
Re-skimming is a good way of providing a good surface without cracks and other imperfections and is generally painted afterwards.
Wet Plastering
Wet Plastering is a means of ‘floating’ the brick or blockwork wall with an undercoat plaster,this undercoat plaster is technically known as ‘Browning’ or ‘Bonding Coat’. This is done with help of a straight-edge to give a flat surface before skimming with finish plaster.
There are also other base coat plaster that can be used depending on the state of the wall.
Boarding
Boarding is considered part of plastering. It involves fixing plaster board to joists which give you a ceiling or fixing plaster board to studwork.
This can be done using nails or screws,perferably plaster board nails and dry-wall screws.
Dry Lining
Dry-lining involves fixing plaster boards to walls (i.e.brickwork) or block work by means of an adhesive.
The technical name for such an adhestive is Dry-wall adhesive, and it is also known as Bonding Compound.
